Sculpture

Influenced by the method of carving heavily grogged (rough) clay to find pleasing (to me) shapes and decoration has led to making forms inspired by leaves and other natural forms such as the fennel flowers. The first designs were reminiscent of ripples in sand on a beach left by the tide.
The designs and decoration and still changing and evolving using a combination or oxides, underglazes and glazes to emphasize the surface designs. These pieces are solid and have to be very slowly fired to stoneware temperature. Each piece is attached to a stone or wood plinth using an internal metal bar.
